Plastic Joining Technologies for Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Equipment

Branson™ welding solutions for hemodialysis and peritoneal medical device manufacturers

Medical Applications

Medical miracles begin with great ideas. But transforming those ideas into reliable, cost effective, and compliant medical devices, analytical instruments, diagnostic platforms, monitoring and drug-delivery systems, and protective equipment demands global resources, backed by local support. That is why medical device manufacturers turn to Emerson for fluid control know-how, assembly expertise, and Rapid Engineered Solutions that can rapidly bring new medical devices to life – and to the people who need them most.

Plastic Joining Technologies

Ultrasonic Benefits

  • Short cycle time (usually <1 second)
  • Cost efficient
  • Creates a strong hermetic seal
  • Outstanding repeatability
  • Automation friendly

Contoured Laser Benefits

  • Virtually no particulates
  • Reliable, repeatable welds (uniformity in high-volume applications)
  • No flash
  • High-speed production of small to large sized moldings with 2D or 3D contours
  • Aesthetics: homogenous weld

Contoured Infrared Benefits

  • Great for medium or large contoured parts
  • More energy efficient (in comparison to hot plate technology)
  • Heat your plastics deep inside instead of overheating and inducing surface degradation
  • Capability to weld complex joints

Hemodialysis and Welding Technologies

  • Dialyzer
  • Dialysate Proportioning System
  • Flow Meter
  • Pump and Blood Pump
  • And the plastic joining technologies used to create them

Hemodialysis Applications

Dialyzers – The ultrasonic welding technique is fast, efficient, non contaminating, and requires no consumables.

Flow meters monitor the blood flow to prevent any issues during the operation. BRANSON welds top cover and brackets using laser and ultrasonic welding.

Frangible Connectors – Ultrasonically welding the Polycarbonate Cap to the Polycarbonate Frangible Connector achieves a strong structural weld.

The Bubble Trap meets the application requirements of a clean and waterproof seal.

There are a variety of Pumps and Blood Pumps manufactured, including an Infusion Pump and a CX Infusion Pump. Both applications are created using ultrasonic welding.
